The package includes two classes required to become a Test and Repair Technician:
- 1. BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training (also known as A-6, A-8, L-1 Alternative)
- 2. Level 2 Inspector Training
BAR Specified Diagnostic and Repair Training is intended to provide students with a high level of competency in diagnosing and repairing Smog Check failures. This training focuses on electrical/electronic systems and engine and emission control performance. Students may substitute this training with the ASE A6, A8, and L1 for re-certification. Students with at least two years of engine performance repair experience who complete this training may qualify for the state licensing examination for the Smog Check Repair Technician License. Level 2 Inspector Training Is intended to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform Smog Check inspections.
Students who complete The Bar Specified Diagnostic & Repair and Inspector Level 2 will have met the Bureau’s training requirements for the Smog Check Inspector and Smog Repair Technician state licensing examinations.
